Distinguished and popular leading man, who never quite made the leap to major stardom. Familiar as Hildie's hapless boyfriend in HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1940), the hero in a few of Universal's 1940s monster franchise entries, and starring in his own "Ellery Queen" series. One of his last roles was 'Randolph Duke' in both TRADING PLACES (1983) and COMING TO AMERICA (1987).
