Animation voice-over actress for Vitaphone's Merrie Melodies in the 1930s, she became famous in the early 1940s on radio's BOB HOPE SHOW as 1/2 of the man-hungry ugly ducklings 'Brenda & Cobina.' Allman was 'Cobina' to Blanche Stewart's 'Brenda,' characters they also played opposite The Three Stooges in TIME OUT FOR RHYTHM (1941). A busy radio actress thru the 1940s, she segued to television, at one time or another appearing on almost every sitcom of the 1950s and 1960s... notably THE ABBOTT & COSTELLO SHOW (Stinky's mother & Mrs. Crumbcake), PETTICOAT JUNCTION (Selma Plout), THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES (Elverna Bradshaw) and THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM (various). |
