UP IN DAISY'S PENTHOUSE

The Stooges' mother has some bad news: their father has left her to marry a gorgeous blonde. They are asked to stop the marriage. Indeed, the boys see their father with his bride-to-be, who is really a golddigger with thugs that plan to kill him and steal his money. The Stooges thwart the villains and save their dad.


A remake of 3 DUMB CLUCKS (1937), with Shemp reprising Curly's dual roles.

The Minister is only an extra, photographed from the back; the character's dialogue is actually dubbed audio, from another film.

    When Moe opens Pa's coat and a whole bunch of moth balls fall out, you can hear someone laughing in the background.

    Moe is supposed to punch Larry and Shemp in the stomach after both of them yell â€Å"Give us that money!”, but you can see Moe prepare his arms for the punch too early before Shemp and Larry even say their line.

  • Magically Appearing Cement Path   Edit this Goof
    In another reused scene from 3 DUMB CLUCKS, we see the Stooges land on top of their father, then after that, a new scene is added in where a cement path that wasn't anywhere in the reused footage suddenly appears in front of the Stooges.

    In one of the reused scenes from 3 DUMB CLUCKS, they accidentally leave in Curly's woo-woos and this is a Shemp short.

  • Stunt Double's Voice   Edit this Goof
    The double for Shemp at the end is given a line to speak while doing a Jimmy Durante impression, but you can obviously tellthat he's not Shemp.

  • Wet or Dry Hair?   Edit this Goof
    After Moe gets the martini splashed in his face by Larry, his hair is all messy and wet. Then after he hits Larry, the camera cuts to another angle and Moe's hair is suddenly neat and dry.

Not a bad remake of "3 Dumb Clucks", but you can tell that this short was done on the cheap. The original had a lot of outdoor scenes, different sets, and a large cast of extras. Here, there is basically one room (standing in for the Stooges home, Old Man Howard's "mansion" and Daisy's penthouse. And a huge crowd of 8 people (including the Stooges) at this wedding!

Couldn't they have spent a few bucks to overdub Curly's yells from the stock footage?

A poorly done remake of 3 DUMB CLUCKS. Most of the scenes here are weaker and slower paced compared to the original. The camera transitions between Shemp as himself and as the father are too fake-looking and not as convincing as they were in CLUCKS. For example, in one part, Shemp as the father says "Here's some money; go out and get yourself some nice--" then the camera cuts to the Stooges and a second later, you can hear the father finish from off-camera in a sudden change of voice tone, "--clothes". It just looked strange.
One of the few parts I did like was the scene with Moe and Larry's changing into new clothes, especially the part where Moe lifts himself off of the floor by pulling on Larry's nose. And I always laugh a lot at the early scene where Moe whacks Shemp in the behind with the sledgehammer and sends him crashing through the door.
The whole ending of this remake was really weak. First off, they left in Curly's woo-woo's in the reused shot from CLUCKS with the Stooges hanging on the flagpole. And whoever that was doubling for Shemp as Popsy in the final shot sounded NOTHING like Shemp when doing the Durante impression.

OK remake of THREE DUMB CLUCKS, not as funny as LISTEN, JUDGE, A MISSED FORTUNE or VAGABOND LOAFERS.The drink mixing scene (eenar frappini) is very funny.

My favorite remake from Curly to Shemp but just like "Pest Man Wins" it suffers when the stock footage is thrown in for no good reason. Still a very worthy effort imo. "I'm his best man, this is his worst." 4 pokesEdited by - Shemp_Diesel on 12/27/2001 12:35:52 PM

3 Dumb Clucks is better, but this is the last episode before the beginning of the stooge decline. The scene in which Shemp just cuts the pants in half that Moe and Larry are fighting over is a funny scene. Shemp says before he cuts the pants: "King Solomon would give each half, so I'm King Solomon." That scene was pretty funny, but I could tell Moe struggled harder.

Hey, I've got to admit when I'm wrong...this one isn't that great. Not to say that it's bad, there are just many other Shemp films that are better and funnier.
