KRAFT MUSIC HALL, THE

Air Date/Released Wednesday, April 1, 1959
Station/Studio NBC
Host/Star Milton Berle
Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)

Half-hour variety series, one of the first network series broadcast in color, hosted by Milton Berle. Mr. Television was much more restrained than the cross-dressing, slapstick legacy he created a decade earlier, performing a monologue and then introducing his guests' acts, occasionally joining them in skits and songs.

Milton Berle welcomes guests Edgar Bergen (& Charlie McCarthy) and singer Peggy King. Berle opens the show costumed as 'Mortimer Snerd,' hoisted on Bergen's lap for gags at Milton's expense. The monologue is interrupted by a lawyer (Joe Besser) threatening to sue Milton for $1MM for slandering his client with jokes... unless he's bribed. Milton and Peggy join Edgar for a sketch, with Charlie McCarthy revealing that he is the ventriloquist, while Bergen is the dummy.

Cast: Milton Berle (Host), Edgar Bergen, Peggy King, Joe Besser, Billy May & His Orchestra

Crew: Hal Kanter (Producer), Ben Tomkins, Hal Kanter (Directors), Hal Goodman, Larry Klein, Milt Josefsberg, Hal Kanter (Writers)
