Joey Barnes hosts a CBS Sunday night variety show from New York. Episodes revolve around his professional and personal life, with celebrities appearing as themselves. At home are Joey's beautiful wife Abby, and maid Hilda. Joe Besser costars as Mr. Jillson, the barely competent apartment building superintendent, a high-strung man with a heart of gold. Rounding out the main characters is Larry Corbett, Joey's best friend, head writer and manager.
When his wife goes out of town, Oscar Levant is invited by Ellie to be the Barnes' houseguest for several days. The renowned temperamental, hypochondriac musician makes fun of his reputation in this episode, as his strange habits and scathing wit make him a household pest.
