HISTORY OF THE JOKE, THE

Air Date/Released Monday, February 18, 2008
Station/Studio History Channel / Triage Ent.
Host/Star Lewis Black
Featuring Miscellaneous Appearances

Lewis Black hosts a 2-hour look at the different types of humor and jokes, physical comedy, timing, ethnic, sex, religion, etc., and the search for the world’s funniest joke. The history of the joke is reviewed from the early Greek performers to modern day. A few veterans present their outlooks and opinions, but the majority of the documentary relies on appearances by modern-day comedians, primarily from the stand-up venues.

The Three Stooges are seen in clips from THREE LITTLE PIRATES (1946) in a discussion about physical humor.
