The Stooges are tailors in the Navy, and when they can't get a pass they steal some officers' uniforms. Curly is mistaken for Admiral Taylor, and the Stooges go to a party where some spies try to get them to show them the Navy's new top secret submarine. When the real Admiral Taylor shows up, the Stooges pretend not to know him, and decide that they had better make themselves scarce, so they hide out in the submarine, accompanied by the spies!

Changed Socks
A Stooge mentions that he cleaned his socks and he's very proud of himself.

I smell rubbish burning
When a Stooge's behind is burning, he doesn't even realize it at first and he says something like "I smell rubbish burning!" or "Somebody's frying onions!"

Rolling on the floor while fighting
Moe and a villian are rolling all over the floor while fighting each other. Another Stooge tries to help Moe out by hitting the villian on the head, but he ends up hitting Moe instead.

Spring caught on behind
The third Stooge unknowingly gets a spring from a couch caught on his behind. The end of the spring gets caught on something else, causing the third Stooge to get repeatedly pulled back into it as he tries to move forward.

We're Trapped Like Rats!
Involves the boys finding themselves in a predicament, and one of them (usually Larry) exlaiming, "We're trapped like rats!" - to which Moe retorts, "Speak for yourself!" and gives him a slap. Other responses by Moe include, "Don't get personal!"

Three Little Sew and Sews manages a strong and unique premise with perfect execution. The end result is a bonified laugh riot.Curly's antics in the admiral's uniform are hilarious, and the writing for these scenes is intelligent. It's wildly fun to watch Curly get the best of Moe and Larry, simply by the clothes he's wearing. The party scene is a gas, as watching the Stooges mingle with high society usually is. The screwy scenes with the submarine at the end top the short off with as much delight as possible.That's the difference between this short and the previous, Flat Foot Stooges. Three Little Sew and Sews provides goofy zany antics and great chaos meanwhile still being coherent, smart, and fun in the process. This is a Stooge classic to be raved about for all time.Final Shemp's Final Word: 4 Pokes

Had never seen this until tonight! Thank you Sony for finally remastering and re-releasing this series on DVD. Very funny throughout and not one moment of downtime. Curly shines in this short. His pantomime scene is great. The sofa and spring scene is even better. Moe and Larry are great as usual, but Curly does so much here that he takes this one home as his own.

This is a good short, not a classic but I like it. It can see where the anti-military slant comments come from after watching this one a few times. Curly does some good stuff, love how he gets the MP's to throw Moe and Larry into jail for assaulting him thinking that hes the Admiral. Plus the spring gag with Curly is always good for a laugh. Weird ending with the Stooges dying but the submarine stuff was fun, loved Curly practicing suffocating from lack of oxygen! 3 pokes from me.

Oh and BTW, The "im going to change my socks" line is said by Moe in this short, not Curly. Curly says that same line in "Cactus Makes Perfect" not this short.

I just watched this one for the first time in years. Curly is terrific throughout--his lording it over Moe and Larry when they're locked in the brig, his pantomime outside the window, and his reaction to the burning cigar under him when the woman is sitting in his lap (she asks, "Do you smell rubbish burning?").The spring-hooked-to-the-pants gag, a variation on the one in "An Ache In Every Stake," is even better in this version; especially when Curly grabs a cocktail table, they both go sliding across the floor, and then Curly falls down and the table bonks him on the head, almost like it's getting its revenge on him for disturbing it. Like the air hose in "Violent Is The Word For Curly," that table seems to have a (nasty) will of its own... in both scenes, it's like he's fighting with a wild animal! The only other film comedian who could do things like this with inanimate objects was Buster Keaton. This film really does have an anti-military (and anti-authority) slant, but I wonder why it's set in "Televania," when everyone's obviously wearing U.S. Navy uniforms? Was someone at Columbia afraid of offending the brass hats at the Pentagon? A great film, and the ending with the Stooges as angels was great. Also the last Stooge short with the Listen to the Mockingbird theme song.

Good short that does seem to have a slight anti-military slant to it.The Curly pantomime bit is excellent; Curly dominates this frombeginning to end. The submarine parts drag a bit, but the fine endingwith the Stooge Angels makes up for it.3 pokes - Nick Barker"I just changed my socks today, what an experience!"

Finally caught up with this one, esp significant as it's the first '39 short & 39-43 are THE peak years for the Curly Lineup. SEW & SEWS kicks off the era with a bang - literally, as the Stooges die in this one! SEW & SEWS is also the last of a short-lived breed (Rob, I know this will warm your libertarian heart), the violently anti-military 2-reel comedy (only possible during peacetime when sanity was likelier to prevail). There's no question but that the Stooges are at war with the Navy in general & their superior officers in particular. If anything, the anti-military tone is even more upfront than in HALF SHOT SHOOTERS. Four pokes, if we're still doing that sort of thing.
